It is a complex and challenging process navigate the many housing options available to NDIS Participants. Supported Independent Living, Short Term and Medium Term Accommodation, Individualised Living Options and Specialised Disability Accommodation, are all different living options. Some remain in the home supports and others are temporary, either short or medium term and others are homes for those who require 24/7 care.
All aged care facilities that provide residence to an NDIS participant where made to become registered NDIS providers in June 2020. In December of 2022 all aged care facilities were provided with the Quality and Safeguards Commissions, expectations of being a registered NDIS provider. As a result, some have started to push back against the government and do not want to be registered NDIS providers. Some have relinquished their registration and this has caused a huge level of uncertainty and anxiety for the residents who rely on their NDIS support.
In recent months a complex issue has raised serious concerns for NDIS participants who live in Aged Care facilities. Some have received letters from the Aged Care facility they reside in stating, they have been forced to become NDIS providers, one wrote "reluctantly" and as a result of that decision they are no longer going to house NDIS participants. One letter states, the resident must cease NDIS support or vacate the facility. This is a political issue and the residents are collateral damage. I know, it sounds shocking, and it is, it is a huge level of stress and anxiety for some of our most vulnerable members of society and we are so determined to help anyone caught up in this situation. If you are a NDIS participant and live in aged care and would like to explore better options, we can help.
We have the process down and developed in house training based on the skills obtained through the process. We also have networked with allied health professionals that are skilled in this complex area and can provide an end-to-end support in relocating to an SDA, ILO or other suitable living arrangement.
